Title: Bloomberg's Progressive College Plan
Date:2/18/20
URL:https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/18/opinion/bloomberg-higher-education-plan.html?searchResultPosition=1
Brief Description: Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently released his plan for higher education. Under this plan tuition at public colleges would be free for in-state students and those in the bottom half of income earners. The bottom 25% would also have living expenses paid for by the government. Likewise, community colleges would be free for everyone and the largest possible Pell Grant offered would be doubled.
Keywords: College, Cost
Future Implications: Mayor Bloomberg is a leading candidate in 2020 Democratic Primary, as such anyone analyzing college affordability in the United States should analyze his plan for college affordability because he very well could be the nominee for the Democrats and potentially the President of the United States. Mayor Bloomberg's plan would do well for affordable public education in the United States. It may be difficult to push through a plan like this if congress is still split between Democrats and Republicans.

Title: Bloomberg's Take on Higher Ed
Date:2/19/20
URL:https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/02/19/bloomberg-plan-brings-contrast-warren-and-sanders-differs-other-moderates
Brief Description: This article not only includes Mayor Bloomberg's plan for higher education affordability but it includes those of other leading Democratic candidates. Senators Sanders and Warren offered plans that include the elimination of student debt. Vice President Biden and Mayor Bloomberg also include in their plans the ability to have debt forgiven for those who were defrauded by for-profit predatory colleges. Mayor Buttiegieg's plan would enroll people in income-based plans if they fall behind on payments and accelerate student debt cancellation for non-profit and governmental workers. Senator Klobuchar would expand the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program for in-demand occupations. Klobuchar and Biden agree with Bloomberg on doubling the maximum Pell Grant. All Democrats agree on making community college free for everyone.
Keywords: Tuition
Future Implications: This early in the primary process it is plausible for any of these people to the Democratic nominee and even potentially President of the United States. While there is no indication of President Trump's plan for college affordability, it is apparent that Democrats have bold ideas that they would be bringing into the white house if they won.
