Brief Description: This article addresses the limitations of the President of the United States to address the student debt crisis. This article was prompted by President Trump's declaration that he has waived interest on student loans held by federal government agencies. However, it has been determined pursuant to laws that only Congress has the power to do this. For example, The Higher Education Act of 1965 mandates that interest be paid on unpaid principal balance.

Future Implications: This plan to cut down on interest rates even if its temporary would be good for the student debt crisis. The only problem would be getting legislation through congress. The Democratic House would probably support it but it may be harder to get it through the Republican Senate
